Harry Mittelman, M.D., is a Board Certified facial plastic surgeon who has been practicing in the peninsula area for over two decades. He is the only surgeon in the area who specializes exclusively in facial cosmetic surgery and body liposuction. As a result, Dr. Mittelman has become one of the most experienced and sought-after providers of facial cosmetic surgery available. He has taught facial cosmetic surgery as a member of the Stanford clinical faculty for over twenty years, and was among the first to perform body liposuction in Northern California.

Philosophy

Aside from depth and breadth of experience, other important things to know about prospective surgeons are their approach to personal care and their concept of beauty. It is Dr. Mittelman's goal to individualize each consultation and surgical procedure. This requires a certain intuition and an understanding of the patient’s expectations, as well as the coordination of the patient's objectives within the realm of what can be achieved safely.Dr. Mittelman strives to obtain the best aesthetic result possible within the context of safety and a natural, non-surgical look. He believes that cosmetic surgery can produce beautiful results, especially when these results are so natural that they are not obvious to others.

Innovation

Dr. Mittelman helped pioneer facial implant surgery, facial cosmetic laser surgery, and techniques for facelift surgery. The Mittelman Extended Chin Implants and the Mittelman Pre-Jowl Implants are the most popular implants of that type in the United States and are used all over the world. Dr. Mittelman also pioneered the use of the Carbon Dioxide Laser for cosmetic surgery in the mid 1980s.

Recognition

In honor of his contributions to the areas of facial contouring, rhinoplasty, laser cosmetic surgery, as well as other areas of facial plastic surgery, Dr. Mittelman received the Mark Rafaty Award "for exceptional contributions to the field of Facial Plastic Surgery" by the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery. He has previously received the ”Teacher of the Year” award at Stanford for his resident instruction and lectures in facial plastic surgery.

Dr. Mittelman has been very active in the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has been chosen by his peers to be on its Board of Directors and to serve as its Treasurer for four years. He was also a founding member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
